Dasha Plesen
Dasha Plesen is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art and biology. For over a decade she has used living microorganisms-bacteria and fungi-as collaborators, cultivating them in Petri dishes to create visual landscapes, sculptural objects and installations.
By collecting microbes from air, public spaces and the human body, she reveals invisible ecosystems and transforms their growth into artworks shaped by biological processes. Rather than controlling the outcome, Dasha designs conditions in which living systems evolve, allowing nature to become an active co-author of the work.
Her practice explores biological agency, the aesthetics of microbial life and the hidden layers of reality that exist beyond human perception.
